Inspired Questions and Wonderful Youth
By: Brandon Page
I recently completed my third week as an FSY counselor for this summer and I have seen the powerful change the Lord can have on the hearts of the youth for the better. This is an inspired program and I can witness of Christ’s live for these youth and for all of us.

One of the things I have learned from my youth is that we need to ask the Lord questions and build our relationship with Him and our Heavenly Father. The Lord wishes to speak to each of us and here are some questions that my youth shared with me.
Questions from my youth:
1. Why does God ask us to be his missionaries if he has all power?
2. How could Christ come and do so much good without any desire for something in it for Him? How could he be so selfless?
3. How can I know if I have been forgiven of my sins and regain my confidence with God?
These are some great questions and I don’t have the complete answer to all of them because the Holy Ghost is who teaches us the truth of all things. However, I can share some places to get started in seeking for those answers.
1.
Doctrine and Covenants section 4 is a great place to start to when considering the answer to this question. Verse 4 talks about a promise that the Lord helps us preserve our own souls as we seek to help other souls come unto Christ. This resonates with the Saviors teachings during his ministry recorded in the Bible where He says if we lose our life for His sake or in His service we will find our own life. We are taught that Eternal Life is coming to know the Savior and our Heavenly Father. King Benjamin taught his people that in order to come to know the Master, they needed to serve Him, so to me it seems that helping others come into Christ is a gift from our Heavenly Father to help us come to know Him and His son Jesus Christ. To become like Jesus Christ we need to become servants like Him.

I believe a large part of Christ’s selflessness is fueled by the love He has for us and for His Father. His mercy makes it possible for all of us to come back, and I believe that alone is reward enough for Christ. He loves us and wants us back. We can receive a witness of that love through the Book of Mormon. Moroni promised that if we will ponder the teachings of the Book of Mormon and pray for a witness, we can come to know the reality of the Savior’s Atonement and His love for us. These things being the Book of Mormon and the it being the merciful Atonement of Jesus Christ.

This question can be challenging because it is hard to feel forgiven at times. That has been my experience at least, but although it may take me a while to regain my confidence in the Lord sometimes, I have found strength in the words of Christ and his servants which has helped me regain my confidence in the Lord. I think Nephi’s prayer describes the mindset we should strive for very well. We should strive to get away from the things causing us grief as soon as we can. The Lord promised He will forgive all those confess their sins and forsakes them, and as often as we will humble ourselves before Him and repent, He will heal us and make us whole again. He is mighty to save, His arm is extended toward us, and He is constantly thinking about us and often is walking beside us. He can make us whole, and as we make an effort to partake of His body and blood and commune with Him in His holy temples, we can become and feel whole through Christ.
