Jesus Christ (2 Nephi 25:19) is our Savior and Redeemer, and He has many other names: Jehova, Alpha, Omega, the beginning and the end, endless (Moses 1:3(7:35)) Son of Righteousness (Malachi 4:2, 3 Nephi 25:2, 2 Nephi 25:13), to name a few. This year in my family scripture studies I have been reading in Doctrine and Covenants and during one such study session with my wife, I was surprised and pleased by the truth in Doctrine and Covenants 19:10 where the Savior reveals a mystery to Martin Harris through the Prophet Joseph Smith. The Lord revealed that His name is endless, and thus His punishment is Endless Punishment because it is His punishment and bears His name. For me this adds to how merciful our Savior and Heavenly Father both are because instead of a never ending punishment we will receive a just punishment given by Him who is endless and who endlessly stretches forth His hand to bear us up while the sun still shines. I would like to expand this naming convention that the Lord employs to other teachings because I think it can be insightful, and I recognize that these are my personal thoughts. Christ is also called Eternal, so Eternal Life is to live as He lives since He is Eternal. Righteous Judgment is Christ’s Judgment; Christ has set apart and given authority to certain people to act as judges in Israel (Doctrine and Covenants 107:71-75) and under that authority act and judge as Christ would. When we have responsibilities to judge whether it be in a profession, in our families, or in decision making, we can strive to act as Christ would. The last connection I wanted to make was from a recent conference address from President Nelson. In it he said the Best is yet to come. At first I thought this declaration surged from his contagious optimism, but upon closer inspection and defying all the harshness of the world, the Best is truly coming, our Savior is on His way, and we can walk in His way and prepare for that great day when the Best arrives in all of His glory. Jesus Christ lives and His promises are sure! We can find hope in Him. He is our hope; may we always remember His mercies. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
